Abstract
The article discusses the article "Attenuation of the sensing capabilities of PhoQ in transition to obligate insect-bacterial association," by M. H. Pontes and colleagues. It demonstrates how one such virulence determinant has been adapted for the symbiotic lifestyle. The researchers speculate that the sensory ability of PhoQ has been attenuated in Sodalis glossinidius, so PhoP has become locked in a constitutively active state.
