Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the role of HIV-1 and HSV-2 infections on Neisseria (N.) gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia (C.) trachomatis acquisition in southern African women. It states that women enrolled in a randomized, controlled trial called Methods for Improving Reproductive Health in Africa (MIRA) and who had an infection at the time of the first visit were investigated. Results showed women with HIV-1 and HSV-2 infections have a higher risk of bacterial acquisition.
