Abstract
Argues that advocates of a statutory response are overly idealistic about the potential of law to deliver a determinate solution to the regulatory dilemmas posed by restructuring. These arguments are illustrated with reference to recent US legislation that requires corporations to notify their workers and state and local governments in advance of impending plant closings.
