Abstract
The article presents a biomechanical study on the influence of injected polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cement on fractured and adjacent vertebral bodies, neural arch, and cement leakage. The study was done by inducing fracture to 19 thoracolumbar motion segments from 13 cadavers and by twice injections of PMMA cement in the fractured vertebrae. It reveals the decrease in stiffness of motion segments, intradiscal pressure in adjacent disc, and load-bearing by vertebral body and anterior disc.
