Abstract
The article discusses the declaration of mosquito-borne Zika virus and microphaly as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Topics discussed include an overview of Zika virus infection, the symptoms of the infection, its transmission, and the standardised microcephaly surveillance in areas where the transmission is rampant.
