Abstract
The article offers information on a 5,000-year-old settlement in Kazakhstan which is known as Botai. The author says that the settlement might provide an answer to the mystery of how, where, and when horses were first domesticated. It is stated that horses are well adapted to a cold, dry environment since they had survived the Ice Age. Botai had been partly excavated under the direction of Kazakh archaeologist Victor Zaibert, then of the Petropavlovsk Pedagogical Institute, which later became North Kazakhstan University, who claimed to have found the first domesticated horses.
