Abstract
The article discusses the work of African-American artist Charles White with contrasting model of socialist humanism in its allegorical content and expressive figuration. It mentions he was awarded its William Weiner Memorial Award in recognition of his contributions and the relationship between White's art and his politics remains contested, when not politely overlooked. It also mentions socialist humanism with influencing the advance of the people's movement.
