Abstract
The article discusses theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer's involvement with the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, New York City during the 1930s. Particular focus is given to Bonhoeffer's relationship with pastor Adam Clayton Powell Sr. and the effects of his experiences there on his later activism against the Nazi regime in Germany. According to the author, it was in Harlem that Bonhoeffer began to engage deeply with issues of injustice and oppression.
