Abstract
The article focuses on reputation destroyed of biochemist Timothy Hunt and demonstrates the danger of the extraordinary, worshipful deference that academia, government institutions and accord to social media. It mentions false picture of Hunt as a misogynist opposed to the equal participation of women in science has mostly been dispelled. It also mentions ignited a combined Internet, social-media, and then print-media firestorm with astonishing speed.
