Abstract
A novel reaction of isatins, 2-cyanoacetamide, and cyclic 1,3-diketones in ethanol was reported. The reaction gave the unexpected spirooxindole ethyl carboxylates in excellent yields and the spirooxindole carboxamide was not observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
