Abstract
The article discusses the literary genre of historical fiction novels. Historical writing, since 1989, has gained in popularity with popular writers such as A.S. Byatt and Margaret Atwood writing in the genre. However, many feel that historical fiction writers are unable to present historical issues in a serious manner and that only unimportant moments in history are revisited and misleading to readers. Historical fiction novelists present history in a fictionalized manner that grants readers greater detail into the past in order to stop the from feeling estranged.
