Abstract
The article focuses on importance of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) for promoting sustainable development in the marine environment. Topics discussed include impact of globalization, poor governance and industrialisation of the seas on marine resource, increased eutrophication, pollution and habitat loss due to exploitation for various purposes such as fishing, shipping and energy, and use of techniques such as utopian tradition of land use planning for promoting sustainability.
