Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the changes in bone mineral density (BMD) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)- infected patients initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART). It mentions that the study was conducted through a comparison of the total BMD changes in 106 ART-naïve HIV-patients who received efavirenz (EFV) or lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) over 96 weeks. It reveals that LPV/r has changed -2.5% and -2.3% to EFV. It suggests that EFV and LPV/r-based regimen can decrease BMD.
