Abstract
This article discusses the importance of promoting sports and physical activities in young people with disabilities. Engaging in physical activities has numerous physical, emotional, and social benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, flexibility, coordination, and overall quality of life. However, young people with disabilities face barriers to participation, such as lack of access to programs, transportation, and equipment, as well as societal biases and stigmatization. Healthcare professionals and advocates play a crucial role in setting expectations, addressing barriers, and providing education and support to young people, families, coaches, and policymakers. The article emphasizes that sports and recreational activities provide opportunities for young people with disabilities to unite with others, challenge societal attitudes, and have fun.
