Abstract
This article discusses the role of bioactives in neurodegenerative diseases, specifically Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. It highlights the complexity of these diseases and the challenges in developing effective treatments, particularly due to the blood-brain barrier. The article mentions the increasing incidence of Alzheimer's disease and the need for disease-modifying drugs. It also provides information on the targets and types of drugs being investigated in clinical trials. The article then summarizes several research contributions that explore the efficacy of natural compounds in treating neurodegenerative diseases, including their effects on amyloidopathy, Aβ aggregation, memory, cognitive function, and neuroinflammation. The contributions also discuss the potential therapeutic use of polyunsaturated fatty acids, cholinesterase inhibitors, cellular retinoic acid binding protein 1, and modified exosomes. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of integrating all available data to develop a better understanding of how to tackle neurodegenerative diseases. [Extracted from the article]
