Abstract
Chinese diplomacy is often frustrating for outsiders due to its bureaucratic, opaque, and defensive nature. Chinese diplomats prioritize protecting the authoritarian regime and maintaining message discipline rather than building bridges or resolving difficult issues. They are often unresponsive to concerns raised by other countries and lack personal rapport with foreign counterparts. The diplomatic service's history of fear and loyalty to the party prevents diplomats from getting too close to foreigners. While high-level negotiations can be successful through personal relationships, overall, Chinese diplomacy is unlikely to change under the current leadership. [Extracted from the article]
