Abstract
In all the cases, DBS was performed after comprehension of the following points by the patients and their families before surgery: MJD is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative disease; therefore, (i) even if the dystonia symptoms are alleviated, the improvement is likely to be partial, (ii) DBS is ineffective for alleviating neurological symptoms other than dystonia, and (iii) sustaining the stimulating effect for dystonia would be unlikely. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is the standard therapy for dystonia and may also be effective for dystonia in MJD; however, relevant reports are extremely limited [[9]]. Conclusion and future perspective In this case report, our findings suggest that DBS for dystonia in MJD may be indicated in cases where the initial symptom is dystonia and the disease duration is short.
