Abstract
The article focuses on the cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR), a sight-threatening disease caused by a member of the human herpesviridae (HHV) family. Topics discussed include the epidemiology of CMVR due to global variation of CMV seroprevalence, association with human immunodeficiency virus infection since the 1980s, and significant effect of highly actice antiretroviral therapy to the decrease in incidence of CMVR.
