Abstract
Recent evidence has implicated reactivation of dormant development pathways in pancreatic carcinogenesis. Ptfla-p48 is a transcription factor required for normal pancreatic development in mammals. The zebrafish (Danio rerio) has emerged as a powerful model organism for the study of vertebrate developmental genetics. Researchers hypothesized that Ptfla would also be required for normal pancreatic development in zebrafish embryos. The zebrafish ortholog ptfla was cloned by degenerate PCR and subsequent 5'- and 3'-RACE. Gene expression patterns were assessed by whole-mount immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization.
