Abstract
The E-pulse technique has been applied in the past to the early-time component of an ultra-wideband radar response. Though its availability has been validated by several scale-model targets, as pointed out by Poter's research results, the Prony model used in the E-pulse technique is mismatched with the true target-scattering behavior. In this paper, according to Poter's GTD model, the type and location parameters of scattering centers are used as templates to identify targets. With parameter templates, a GTD model-based approach to target identification for ultra-wideband radar using matching pursuits and likelihood-ratio test (for short MPLRT-GTD) is developed. The simulation results using measured scattering signatures of two targets in an ultra-wideband chamber are provided to contrast the performance of the MPLRT-GTD to the LRT and Li's E-pulse technique. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
