The article focuses on the leadership role of Supervisors of Midwives. It is stated that midwives should be helped to recognize their own accountability. For this reason, a Supervisor of Midwives is involved in a process which has gone beyond training, support and development and in the arena of assessment of competence to practice the profession. In addition, midwives should be able to identify with and see their Supervisors.
