Abstract
Discusses how Baruch S. Blumberg, director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Astrobiology Institute (NAI), is searching for extreme life-forms in California's Death Valley. Blumberg's opinion that advances in molecular biology and space exploration add relevance to issues such as the origin of life and its possible existence elsewhere; How information about life in hostile environments on earth can lead to the understanding of potential life on other planets.
