Abstract
The article presents a case study of a 75-year-old man with a past medical history of asthma, arterial hypertension, gout, mild interventricular communication, and gastroesophageal reflux was referred for mild erythrocytosis evolving for at least 15 years. Topics include the erythropoiesis is tightly regulated by the secretion of erythropoietin in response to tissue hypoxia, and the hemoglobin variants with increased oxygen affinity are a rare cause of secondary erythrocytosis.
