Abstract
The authors reflect on a study conducted by Wever-Carstens and colleagues which examined patients with intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired diffuse paresis by using direct muscle simulation (DMS) technique. They examine the occurrence of neuromuscular disorders among patients in ICUs, and the significance of an anticipated diagnosis focusing on the disorders. They discuss the implications of using neurophysiological evaluation in predicting patients who will develop paresis.
