Abstract
The article discusses a survey of accountable care organization (ACO) structure and contracts in 2012-18 study which shows that the model may need stronger financial incentives, like the inclusion of downside risk in contracts. It states that although ACO contracts have expanded, the growth has only been modest for the proportion bearing downside risk. Also noted is the need to understand the importance of downside risk to move the ACO model forward.
