Abstract
Carbon nanotubes have been grown by chemical vapor deposition at 650°C in an argon atmosphere using a butane-propane mixture and a nickel catalyst and have been characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The results indicate that the multiwalled nanotubes have an imperfect graphite-like structure with a conical supramolecular configuration. A phenomenological technique is proposed for statistical analysis of the state of carbon nanotubes in measurements of the intensity of the defect zone D in their Raman spectra. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
