Abstract
The article discusses development in British country houses toward the end of the 18th century. Topics discussed include history of glazed botanical structures; growing numbers of subtropical and tropical plants arriving from colonial outposts; and glazed corridors to connect the house to a conservatory or greenhouse in the grounds.
