Abstract
In conclusion, the low prevalence of hydrocortisone 21-acetate allergy is very far from justifying its inclusion in the baseline series, even if in selected patients it is mandatory to patch test this CS to avoid false negative results. This is probably due to the use of "safer" CSs with regard their contact sensitization potential.2 On the other hand, little is known about the potential sensitizing properties of hydrocortisone 21-acetate, a topical CS widely used in many over-the-counter preparations in Italy.3 We investigated the prevalence contact allergy to hydrocortisone 21-acetate in consecutive patients.
