Abstract
The article reports on an outbreak of poliomyelitis confirmed by the National Department of Health in Papua New Guinea on June 22, 2018 due to circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV) type 1. A genetically-linked virus was isolated from a paralytic case and non-household community contacts. The index patient was a six-year-old boy from Law (Morobe Province). Active acute flaccid paralysis case-finding at health facilities was intensified after the initial cVDPV case was detected.
