Abstract
This article discusses the use of three-dimensional (3D) virtual reconstruction technology in robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) for horseshoe kidneys. Horseshoe kidneys are a rare renal fusion abnormality that presents challenges for surgical resection. The traditional method of operative planning using two-dimensional (2D) imaging is limited in assessing the complex anatomy of horseshoe kidneys. The article describes a step-by-step guide to using 3D virtual anatomical modeling to inform surgical approach, guide intraoperative decisions, and predict and plan for potential complications. The use of 3D reconstruction technology improves surgeons' understanding of case-specific anatomy, increases confidence, and improves surgical plans. The article concludes that this technique will improve operative planning and surgical outcomes in RAPNs for horseshoe kidneys. [Extracted from the article]
