Until 2010, most patient referrals were from institutions in Toon City, where Ehime University Hospital is located, or Matsuyama City, the capital city of Ehime prefecture. Although there were referrals from the wide area of Ehime prefecture by the fifth year, referrals came mostly from clinics and hospitals located near Ehime University Hospital or Matsuyama Expressway. We analyzed clinical data of patients referred to our center within its first 5 years to identify changes in the routes of patient referral hoping this would be of use to similar institutions in future.
