On the risk of using raw regional data on new HIV infections in France.

Abstract
The article discusses a study on the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among French men who have sex with men (MSM) from 2016 to 2021. The study found that the Centre-Val de Loire region had the highest PrEP uptake among MSM in France. However, the authors caution that the large difference in estimates between French regions may not be solely explained by the dynamism of the local community. They also question the reliability of the data sources used in the study, particularly the unadjusted HIV notification data from 2017. The authors suggest that future studies could benefit from using clinical data warehouses and healthcare insurance data to improve HIV epidemiological indicators and strengthen ecological models.
