Abstract
We show that for many spaces of bivariate splines imposing certain additional individual smoothness conditions on a spline space does not change the space. Such spaces possess supersmoothness that is not reflected in their standard definitions. Smoothness is treated as vanishing of strongly supported smoothness functionals. We investigate the dependence of this phenomenon on the geometry of the underlying partition and the degree of splines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
