Abstract
The article examines the career of African American historian Monroe Fordham, who taught history at the University of Buffalo in New York State. Focus is given to his work collecting source material related to local African American history. The author explains Fordham's interest in local church history in Buffalo, New York, emphasizing his efforts in collecting church records. He describes the history courses developed by Fordham and notes the historian's work composing a history of the university. Fordham was also integral in the founding of the Afro-American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier and the journal "Afro-Americans in New York Life and History."
