Abstract
Diagnosis of CRS was made according to the criteria defined by the ICAR 2021 and the EPOS 2020.[[1]] Patient charts were then reviewed for demographic data, smoking status, statin use, CRS phenotype, SNOT-22 score, LK score, LM score, and treatment. This contrasts with a recent study that showed that CRS patients on statins had lower SNOT-22 scores. These have been referred to as "pleiotropic effects" and include anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant properties.[3] Few studies have investigated the role of statins in CRS,[[4], [6]] of which only one looked at subjective and objective measures on the individual level.[4] Thus, the objective of our study is to investigate whether CRS patients on statins have a lower burden of disease as measured by the 22-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22), Lund-Kennedy (LK) endoscopy, and Lund-Mackay (LM) computed tomography scores compared to CRS patients not on statins.
