Advocates total thyroidectomy for benign thyroid disorders arguing that it carries no greater risk of damage to the reurrent laryngeal nerve in the hands of an experienced thyroid surgeon. Lesser risk of recurrence and reoperation for recurrent goitre associated with increased morbidity; Report of a case in which total thyroidectomy was performed on a 34 year old woman; Discussion of the particulars of the case.
