Abstract
The article presents information on development of geography as an academic discipline in Nigeria. The foundation of geography as an academic discipline in Nigeria was laid in 1948 when the University of Ibadan was founded as a college of the University of London. Prior to 1960 Nigerian geography was dominated by expatriate influence and the structure and content of undergraduate courses, of necessity, followed the pattern of the University of London. With four more universities being established in the early 1960s, geography entered its boom period.
