Abstract
A fetal echocardiogram at 26 weeks demonstrated moderate aortic root dilation (7.8 mm; I Z i -score, 4.9) (Figure 1a), mild dilation of the main pulmonary artery (8.2 mm; I Z i -score, 2.2) and normal biventricular size and systolic function, which led to prenatal suspicion of LDS Type 4. Postnatal echocardiography confirmed aortic root dilation (1.22 cm; I Z i -score, 2.34) and pulmonary artery dilation (1.2 cm; I Z i -score, 3.8), and additionally showed a small secundum atrial septal defect and a moderate-sized patent ductus arteriosus. Treatment with propranolol was started in the hospital after birth and, at the 14-month follow-up visit, the patent ductus arteriosus had resolved, although the atrial septal defect and aortic root and pulmonary artery dilation were still present.
