Abstract
The article describes the development by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) of the Background Paper for the recently developed guidelines for the minimum set of equipment for the effective management of an unexpected difficult airway. It also reports on the contents of the ANZCA document which was based on expert consensus, underpinned by wide consultation and an extensive review of the available evidence.
