Abstract
The article discusses the authors’ own research in India covering the years 1956 through 2006, examining the transformation and modernization of India during those years. The authors published a book entitled “The Modernity of Tradition” in which their Indian research during the years of 1956 and 1957 is examined. Other topics of discussion include Indian tradition as adaptive, dichotomous social change in India, and the absence of regional experts who specialize in South Asia.
