Abstract
The effect of Brennan Healing Science® (BHS) on involuntarily childless women was studied. A treated group (TG) and an untreated matched control group (CG) were compared before and after intervention. ANOVA showed significant improvements in the sense of coherence (SOC) in the TG after treatment (p < 0.01) as well as in the subscales comprehensibility (p < 0.05) and manageability (p < 0.05). The Inventory of Depressive Symptoms (IDSSR) showed a tendency of decreasing depressive symptoms (p > 0.05) and a highly significant decrease of negative mood (p < 0.01) in the TG. SOC and depressive mood improved in 7 out of 10 participants. To date, only longterm psychotherapies were found to have significant effects on SOC. To our knowledge, this is the first study demonstrating the changeability of SOC in adults through a short term body-oriented treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
