Abstract
The author attempts to understand the motivation behind individuals who are resistant to public health mandates such as mask wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the necessity of medical communication during such a pandemic, and the role of public health officials in pandemics. The article discusses personal autonomy, communication strategies, and the concept of empathy.
