Abstract
The article discusses the sieges of Drogheda and Wexford, Ireland by the troops of English military and political leader Oliver Cromwell in 1649, part of the Irish Confederate Wars. It examines Irish and British interpretations of these events, particularly investigating claims that large numbers of civilians were killed. The influence of Irish nationalism is considered, and the author reflects on critical responses to his book "Cromwell - An Honourable Enemy: The Untold Story of the Cromwellian Invasion of Ireland."
