Abstract
Identifies two human rabies cases caused by a bat-associated virus variant in Costa Rica in September 2001. Duration of the absence of the disease in humans; Characterization of the rabies viruses from the patients; Identification of the hematophagous Vampire Bat, Desmodus rotundus, as the reservoir and a sick cat as the vector.
