Abstract
The article discusses research that is yielding clues to why the life span of Homo sapiens exceeds that of other primates. Topics include research by biologist Caleb Finch and gerontologist Eileen Crimmin at the University of Southern California, investigating longevity in humans by studying mummies, factors contributing to human life spans, such as medical advances, and the role of variants of the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene, APOE e4 and APOE e3, in human longevity.
