Abstract
Introduction : Head injury or cranio-cerebral injury is commonly seen in motor vehicle accident. In 30% of motor vehicle accident skull fracture is present in head trauma cases. Temporal bone is most complex thick and hard skull bone, even though fracture of it is seen in 14- 22% of skull fracture. Materials and Methods : A descriptive cross sectional study was done in NBMC Darjeeling during January 2018 to December 2018. The study included all fatal head injury cases present with temporal bone fracture to know the incidence of temporal bone fracture, intracranial haemorrhage and scalp injuries. Results : Temporal bone fracture was more common in males. The highest incidence of temporal bone fracture was seen in road traffic accident cases. All type of mechanical injuries were seen in cases of head trauma with temporal bone fracture. Among all mechanical injuries laceration was found most commonly. Fissured fracture was the most common type of skull fracture associated with temporal bone fracture. Intracranial haemorrhage was seen in every cases of skull fracture but subdural haemorrhage was most common. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
