Abstract
The article examines hypothetical partnership preferences and actualized relationship dynamics in a rural community of Himba pastoralists in Namibia. It estimates mate value, a component of mate choice in humans, using ratings by opposite-sex, in-group members. Topics discussed include human mating dynamics, notion that mating preferences are conditioned on perceived market value, and link between desirability and choosiness.
