Abstract
This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, explores factors associated with early variceal eradication after endoscopic ligation. The study included 31 cirrhotic patients with esophageal varices who were treated with endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL). The researchers collected demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients, including the etiology of cirrhosis, severity of liver disease, and laboratory tests. The results showed that a higher platelet count, a higher number of rubber bands used during the procedure, and female sex were associated with a lower number of endoscopic sessions required for variceal eradication. However, only the platelet count demonstrated a non-significant trend in the multivariate analysis. The study suggests that the number of platelets may influence the number of endoscopic sessions needed to eradicate esophageal varices. [Extracted from the article]
