Abstract
The article focuses on an experiment which examined a new threshold behavior in the 5²G partial channel in photodetachment of potassium ions. The threshold behavior is said to have arise from the repulsive polarization interaction between the detached electron and the residual K(5²G) atom. The authors conclude that attractive polarization potential reduces the height of the centrifugal barrier leading to a steep onset of the cross section.
