Abstract
The article explores host-pathogen adhesive complexes associated with apicomplexan parasitic invasion. Topics discussed include the occurrence of high- and low-affinity host cell-parasite interactions, various concepts that define receptor-ligand interactions, and how ligand concentration contribute to adhesion strengthening. Clinical details on the way Plasmodium falciparum sporozoites invade cells of the human host are also presented.
